Culture Wheel Presentation ~

The students had a great time being entertained by Ian Porteous as he shared Folktales, played jigs on his fiddle, and taught them traditional Metis dances and music.

Mr. Porteous had the whole audience up participating in the dances.  





Winter Olympics ~

NHCS' 2nd Winter Olympics was a huge success.  The weather cooperated and we had a beautiful, fun-filled day.  

A special thank you to Pat Madu for helping with the hot chocolate station.  Thank you to Const. Bailey and all of the parents that made it out to cheer on the athletes.  




















Family Dance ~


Thank you to the PTA for once again hosting a very successful Family Dance.  The students had a fabulous time.  

Thank you to Mrs. Marinoski, Mrs. Kabanuk, and 
Mrs. te Reitstap for running the concession.  Thank you to Mrs. Micku for being the DJ for the evening and picking up the lights and fog machine.  

Pink Shirt Day ~

A reminder that Wednesday, Feb. 28th in Pink Shirt Day.  Wear pink to show your support that bullying is not OK.  This year there is a special focus on Cyberbullying.  Pink Shirt Day is encouraging others to combat cyberbullying by thinking twice before posting something negative, and instead using the internet to spread kindness - because we know that Nice Needs No Filter!

Assembly ~ 

Our monthly assembly will be held on Thursday, March 1st at 8:30.  If your child is receiving special recognition at assembly, their teacher will contact you.

All parents are welcome to attend.

Feb. 19th - 23rd

School Spelling Bee ~

On Monday, February 12 we held our school spelling bee.  We held it in the gym and set up the format as close to the District Bee as possible.  We had fifteen students from gr. 4 to Gr. 6 compete in the Bee.  Congratulations to all of those students.  They all did a fabulous job.  Special congratulations to Brianna Leakey (1st place) and Kianna Larson (2nd place) who will be going on to represent NHCS at the District Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at 6:30 at Caledonia Park School.  We wish the girls the best of luck.

Thanks also to Mr. Glubish for coming out to watch the competition!





Curling ~

Our Gr. 3 - 6 students had a great time trying their hand at curling.  Despite the hesitation of many of the students, they all had a fabulous time and many asked if we could go more often.

Thank you so much to the Calmar Curling Association for providing the ice time and the busing to this event.  Thank you also to Shaun Abel for volunteering his time to teach the students about curling in such an engaging way!









Valentine's Day ~

Thank you to all the students and staff that got into the school/valentine spirit by wearing red and/or white to school.






Family Day ~

There will be no school on Monday, February 19th as it is Family Day.  We hope everyone takes advantage of this day  to spend time together as a family. Thank you to all of the families that sent back their form explaining their plan to unplug on Family Day.

Congratulations to the Glubish Family for being the lucky winners of the FCSS Family Day  prize!

Culture Wheel Presentation ~

On Tuesday, February 20 NHCS will be having a Culture Wheel presentation.  The 60 minute presentation will begin at 9:00.  It will focus on aspects of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit culture including First Nations Storytelling and Metis dance instruction to the Red River Jig. 

All parents and siblings are welcome to attend.

Winter Olympics ~

On Friday, February 23 students will be participating in our NHCS Winter Olympics.  Students will be divided into groups where they will present on a specific Olympic sport.  They will then go outside to participate in a variety of winter activities.

The games will begin at 12:45 with the group presentations.  They will then proceed outside to interact in the various activities until the end of the day!

Family Dance ~

The Parent Association will be hosting a Family Dance on Friday, February 23 from 7:00 - 9:00.  It will be a black light dance so everyone is encouraged to wear white.  There will be a concession with snacks and glow sticks for sale.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Golden Garbage Can Award ~ 

The students in the Gr. 3/4 were the winners of the Golden Garbage Can for January.  They kept their classroom the cleanest for the month of January.  Way to go 3/4's! 

Library Prize ~ 

Lincoln D. in Kindergarten and Shaylynn K. in Gr. 4 received the Library Prize for January.  Their names were drawn from all the names entered in the draw.  Each time the students have library class they can enter their names into the draw for a chance to win the Library Prize. 


Rainbow Lunch Award ~ 

Jenna K in Gr. 2 was the lucky winner of the Rainbow Lunch Prize.  Jenna received a pass to the LRC for herself and one adult.


Character Education Presentation ~

Kianna, Taylor, Cameka, Aron, and Ben from Gr. 5/6 did a presentation on Persistence.  They showed the audience a video about being persistent and then asked some questions about why it is important to be persistent.

Early Dismissal ~ 

Early Dismissal is this Wednesday, February 7th.  Students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm.  

Teacher's Convention ~

There will be no school on Thursday, February 8th and Thursday, February 9th. as it is Teacher's Convention.

School Spelling Bee ~ 

On Monday, February 12th at 10:20 am. we will be having a school Spelling Bee.  The top five winners from Gr. 4, 5, and 6 will compete to see who will go on to represent the school at the District Spelling Bee.  

Everyone is welcome to come out and watch!

Pink Shirt Day ~
