School Assembly ~


The February assembly will be held on Wednesday, February 1st at 8:30 a.m.  If your child is being recognized at the assembly their teacher will let you know.

Everyone is welcome to attend the assembly.

Skating Party ~


In order to take advantage of the great skating rink conditions that we have this year, we will be having a whole school skating party on Wednesday, February 1st at 1:00 pm.  Skating will be followed by cookies and hot chocolate compliments of Mrs. Messer.  Thank you Mrs. Messer!

Please come out and join us!

Early Dismissal ~


Early Dismissal will be on Wednesday, February 1st. Dismissal is at 2:30 pm.

Family Movie Night ~

On Wednesday, February 8th the New Humble Centre Parent Group is hosting a Movie Night.  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie will start at 6:30 p.m.  The movie has yet to be determined.

Stay tuned for more information!

Teacher's Convention ~

There will be no school on Thursday, February 9th and Friday, February 10th as it is Teacher's Convention.

Swimming ~


Swimming lessons begin soon.  Dates for swimming are:

Gr. 3 - 6 ~ 
Tues., Feb. 14th, 21st, 28th, March 7th, 14th & 21st.

K - Gr. 2 ~
Thur., Feb. 16th, 23rd, March 2, 9th, 16th, & 23rd, 
                 

Family Day ~ 


There is no school on Monday, February 20th as it is Family Day.  This is an opportunity to spend time as a family. Remember it is also a day to unplug from electronics so as to create some wonderful memories while you have some family time together.

Pink Shirt Day ~ 


Students are encouraged to wear pink on Wednesday, February 22 to symbolize that we as a society will not tolerate bullying anywhere.

Jan. 30th - Feb.3rd

We are now entering into the last week of January.  With the relatively mild January that we have experienced, January seemed to go by very quickly.  


Jersey Day ~

There was excellent participation on Jersey day.  Way to go students and staff!

National Family Literacy Day ~

Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents that came out to school on Friday to read to the students.  The students always love being read to.








Skating Rink ~

This winter, we have had the best skating conditions since I came to New Humble Centre. The students are making very good use of the rink.  Thank you to the Glubish and Arcand Families for flooding the rink again this past week.  We really appreciate the efforts of everyone that has helped out to maintain the rink!


Staff Planning and Development Day ~

On Tuesday, January 31st there will be no school for students as this is a Staff Planning and Development Day. Our staff will be joining Calmar Elementary Staff to listen to a motivational speaker on Healthy School Relationships.  

Monthly Assembly ~

Wednesday, February 1st will be our monthly assembly at 8:30 in the morning. If your child is being recognized at the assembly their teacher will be in contact with you.  

Everyone is welcome to attend our assemblies!

Early Dismissal ~

Wednesday, February 1st is Early Dismissal.  Students are dismissed at 2:30.


Media Safety Presentation ~

The Gr. 5 and 6 students will be having a Media Safety Presentation on Friday, Feb. 3rd at 8:25 a.m.  If you have a child in Gr. 4 and you would like them to attend the presentation please let myself or their teacher know.

If there is enough parent interest, we can arrange to have the presenter do an evening parent presentation.  Please jot a note in your child's agenda or send in an email if this is something that you would be interested in.

Jan. 23rd - 27th

Gr. 3 - 6 Curling ~

The Gr. 3/4 class and the Gr. 5/6 class spend last Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at the Calmar Curling Rink learning about curling.  Thank you to the Calmar Curling Club for providing this opportunity to our students!

  
 


Events This Week ~


Skiing ~

Image result for skiing clipartThe Gr. 3 - 6 students will be going to Rabbit Hill for their final ski day on Tuesday, Jan. 24th.  The bus will leave first thing in the morning and return around 3:00.  This is an excellent opportunity for the students to get a lesson at their individual level and practice their skills.  


Jersey Day ~

Image result for jersey day clipartStudents are encouraged to wear their favorite jersey to school on Thursday, Jan. 26th.  It is always interesting to see the different jerseys that the students have.


National Family Literacy Day ~

Image result for family literacy day clipartFamily Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27th to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family.  Check out the website http://abclifeliteracy.ca/family-literacy to find a variety of activities that you can do with your family to promote Literacy.  

Thank you to the few parents that volunteered to come in and read to some of the students.  It is still not to late to volunteer!

Girls' Basketball Tournament ~

Image result for girls basketball clipartThe girls' basketball team's final tournament is this coming weekend, Friday, Jan. 27th and Saturday, Jan. 28th.  The girls will be playing on Friday, Jan. 27th at 3:40 and 4:20.  All games will be played at Calmar Elementary School. Additional games will be determined on by their wins and loses.  Any additional games would be played on Saturday.  


Thank you to Mrs. LaGrandeur for coaching the girls' team again this year.

Skating Rink ~


Image result for skating rink clipartA special 'Thank You' to Travis Larson and his helper for coming out to clear the drifted snow off the rink this past Thursday night. Everyone appreciates your efforts!  The students enjoyed being able to go skating on Friday.  



School Council/PTA Meeting ~


Image result for parent council clipartAll parents are invited out to the Parent Council and PTA meeting this coming Monday, January 16th at 6:30.  This is one way that you can get involved in what is happening at the school.

School Fees ~

School fees are now past due.  If you have not paid your school fees yet, you can do so either on ACORN (Powerschool) or by dropping into the office.  If you are unable to pay your school fees and need to have them waived, please stop into the office to talk to me.  Thank you.

Gr. 3 - 6 Curling ~


Image result for curling clipartUnfortunately because of the buses not running last week, we had to postpone the curling field trip for the Gr. 3 - 6 students.  The students will be going this Tuesday, Jan. 17th and Thursday, Jan. 19th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm. both days.  I know that many of the students are excited about being able to go curling.  

Please remember to sign and return the new permission form that went home with your child.  Thank you


Boys' Basketball Tournament ~

The Boys' Basketball Team will be playing in their tournament this coming weekend, Friday, Jan. 20th and Saturday, Jan. 21st. The games will be played at East Elementary School in Leduc.  The team plays Friday at 3:40 pm. and 7:40pm.  They play again Saturday at 11:40 am. Additional games will be determined by the teams win/lose record.  

Thank you to Miss Richards for coaching the boys' team this year and to all the parents that drove boys to the games!  

Best of luck to all boys playing in the tournament.
