Working Together during Character Education ~

During character education students worked together to complete their "One Word" activity.  Students were asked to describe a New Year's resolution in one word and the steps they would take to achieve that goal.

Beach Day ~

Dance Party ~

During assembly, students spun the wheel for a whole school reward. It landed on the Gr.1/2 space so the Gr. 1/2
class decided the whole school should have a dance party.  The dance party was held on Beach Day.

Student of the Month ~

Congratulations to the following students for receiving Student of the Month for January:

Makayla teRietstap - Gr.5
Grayson Hawkins - Gr. 3
Grady Ferguson - Gr. 2
Gregory Jakabuv - K

Library Prize Winners~

Congratulations to Nash F. in Gr. 4 and Katarina K. in kindergarten for bringing their library books back on time.  Their names were then entered into the draw and they won the library prize.

Skating Rink ~

Thank you to Durrand Hebner and Nick Martinoff for flooding the rink.  It will be ready to skate on as soon as we remove the snow we received over the weekend.

Hopefully we will be able to skate in gym class later in the week.  Stayed tuned for more information about this as we will need parent help to tie skates.  You may want to check that your child's skates still fit, if you have not used them yet this year.  Students must have a CSA approved helmet, jacket and mittens to skate.  Snow pants would be a bonus especially for the younger students.

Accountability Pillar Surveys ~

Alberta Education sends out surveys to all parents of students in Gr. 4 - 6.  Please take some time to fill out either the paper copy or the online survey.  This information is very valuable in helping the school make decisions moving forward.  The more people to fill out the survey the more valid the information.  We thank you in advance for filling out the survey.

Girls' Basketball ~

The girls' basketball team will be playing in their tournament this weekend, Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26 at Calmar Elementary School.  Their first game is on Friday at 3:40.

Thank you to all of the parents of the girls for supporting them this basketball season and for driving them to the games and cheering them on.  Your support is greatly appreciated!

January 14th - 18th

We started the New Year off in typical January tradition - indoor recess.  I guess we need to be grateful for the beautiful weather we had during the Christmas break.

We need to celebrate the fact that we all made it through the first week of January.  By Thursday, the effects of Christmas break were setting in.  Most everyone was looking, feeling, or acting a bit tired.  Hopefully everyone recharged over the weekend.

Accountability Pillar Surveys ~

The Government of Alberta recently released the 2019 Accountability Pillar Surveys.  Parents of students in grades 4 - 6 will be sent one survey per child.  This year parents are given the choice to complete the survey either in paper or online.  Included in your survey package will be a Random Access Code.  This code will be needed to complete the online survey.  Also included in the package is a return envelope with prepaid postage.

We encourage all parents to complete the survey(s) as the information that we receive from the survey is used to guide our Three Year Education Plan.  Surveys need to be completed by February 22, 2019.

If you have any questions about the survey, please feel free to contact the school.

January - Happy New Year!

Image result for happy new year 2019

I hope that everyone enjoyed the Christmas Break and had many opportunities to spend time with family, take time to relax, and just have time to do some of your favourite things.

Personally, I made the most of the break and even had time to read a few books.  That being said, I am looking forward to getting back into routine and seeing all of the students and hearing about their breaks. Hopefully the students are all rejuvenated and are ready to get back into the rigor of learning.  January is a great month to really work on improving work habits and putting extra effort into their school work.

Bell Let's Talk ~

Wednesday, January 30th is Bell Let's Talk Day.  Break the silence. Mental illness touches us all in some way directly or through a friend, family member or colleague. Stories of people who have experienced mental health issues and who are doing well can really challenge stereotypes. Most people with mental health issues can and do recover, just by talking about it.

More information about the Let's Talk initiative can be found at https://letstalk.bell.ca/en/our-initiatives/.

Gr. 3-6 Skiing ~

The Gr. 3-6 students will once again be hitting the slopes of Rabbit Hill on Thursday, January 31.  Everyone had a wonderful time in December so I hope the conditions are favorable again this time so everyone can have a great experience again.

Report Cards ~

Report cards will be going out on Thursday, January 31st.  Marks are live throughout the year but in order to prepare for printing the report cards we will have to disable PowerSchool marks the week prior to printing starting on Monday, January 14th.

If you have any questions or concerns about your child's marks, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.
