Assembly ~ 


Our February assembly will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 8:30 am.  If your child is being recognized at the assembly their teacher will notify you.  We will also be recognizing our Basketball teams at the assembly.

All Parents are welcome to attend!


Early Dismissal ~ 

Early dismissal will be on Wednesday, February 7th.  Students will be dismissed at 2:30.


Teachers' Convention ~ 

There will be no school on Thurs., Feb. 8th and Fri., Feb. 9th as it is Teachers' Convention.  

Valentine's Day ~

On Valentine's Day, Wednesday, February 14th, we will be having Red and White Day.  Dress in red and white clothes or decorate yourself with Valentine's decorations.  

Family Day ~ 

Once again NHCS will be participating in the FCSS' Family Day Unplugged Contest.  We encourage all families to participate in the Unplugged Contest on Monday, February 19th.

Family Day Unplugged is an initiative that encourages families to put away their cell phones, shut down their computers, and turn off their TV’s and video games in favour of spending quality time with each other. We believe that disconnecting from technology encourages connection with others and increased engagement to experiences. It will allow you to participate in quality family time fully and without distraction.

Ballot entries will be available at the school after February 1st.


Cultural Presentation ~ 

On February 20th we will be having a Cultural Presentation called Cultural Wheel at the school.  This 60 minute presentation focuses on aspects of First Nations, Metis and Inuit culture including First Nations storytelling, Metis dance instruction to the Red River Jig.

The presentation will begin at 9:00 am.  All parents are welcome to attend!


Winter Olympics ~ 

To get into the spirit of the Winter Olympics, NHCS will be having their own Olympic Day on Friday, February 23.  We are hoping the weather will cooperate with us so that we can have a variety of outdoor activities.  More information will follow regarding the time the activities will begin.  


Family Dance ~

Get your dancing shoes ready because on Friday, February 23rd the Parent Association will be hosting a family dance. The dance will be from 7:00-9:00.  It will be a black light dance so everyone is encouraged to wear white.  There will be a concession with snack items for sale.  

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Crazy Hair Day ~

There were some very creative students sporting some fantastic crazy hairstyles.  Thank you to all of the students that participated.  








Bronze Medal Winners (Again) ~  

The Girls' basketball team played in their final tournament on Friday, Jan. 26th and Saturday, Jan. 27th.  The girls put their heart and soul into each and every game and ended up finishing first in their pool. They they went on to the semi final game where they lost against Willow Park School.  After that game they played in the Bronze Medal game where they all played hard and won the game.  Each of the girls need to extremely proud of how well they played and how they came together as a team.  Congratulations girls!

A special thank you to Mrs. LaGrandeur for volunteering her time to coach the girls' team!










Gr. 3 - 6 Skiing ~ 

On Tuesday, January 30th our grade 3 - 6 students will be going to Rabbit Hill for their final ski day.  The snow that we received last week should make conditions very enjoyable.


No School ~  

There is no school on Wednesday, Jan. 31st.  This is a Staff Planning and Development Day.  Staff will be working on one of the Three Year Plan goals - Building Foundational Knowledge of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit.

Bronze Medal Winners ~


Congratulations to our Boys' Basketball team and their coach, Mrs. Mertins, who won the Bronze Medal at their tournament this weekend.  The boys won all of their games in their round robin pool on Friday to end up in first place in their pool.  They then went on to play against Thorsby Elem., who also came in first place in their pool.  The boys played very hard but ended up losing to Thorsby.  They then went on to play in the Bronze medal game against Calmar Elem.  The boys put their hearts and souls into the game and came out victorious.  They should all be very proud of how they played this weekend and how they improved their skills and grew as a team throughout the season.  Job well done, gentlemen!













Winter Olympics ~


In anticipation of our school winter olympics that we are planning for Friday, February 23, we need your help. We are planning on having a curling event and therefore need to  start collecting four litre milk jugs with lids.  If you can donate some of these milk jugs to the school, we would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks so much!

Girls' Basketball ~


The girls' team will play their final game before their tournament on Tuesday, January 23 at Thorsby Elementary.  If your daughter is on the team, please make sure that the revised permission form has been signed.

The girls' tournament will be held on Friday, January 26 and Saturday, January 27 @ Calmar Elementary.  Their schedule to date is: 

Fri., Jan. 26 @ 3:20 pm.
Fri., Jan. 26 @ 6:00 pm.
Fri., Jan. 26 @ 7:20 pm.
Sat., Jan. 27 @ 1:00 pm.

Any other games will be determined by the results of the above listed games.

Crazy Hair Day ~


The school spirit day for January is Crazy Hair Day.  It will be held on Thursday, Jan. 25.  Let's see how creative everyone can be with their hairdos.

Bus Safety Poster Winners ~

Mrs. Eilander attended our January assembly to share who the winners of this year's Bus Safety Poster Contest were.  

Congratulations to Tolson H. in Gr. 2 and Kianna L. in Gr. 6.  The winners received a cheque for $25.  Way to go, Tolson and Kianna!

Basketball ~

Congratulations to the Boys' and Girls' basketball teams.  Both teams won their game against Warburg this past Thursday night.  

Both teams play again next Tuesday, January 16th against Calmar Elementary.  

The Boys' Basketball tournament will be on Friday, Jan. 19th and Saturday, Jan. 20th at East Elementary.  The boys' first game will be on Friday, Jan. 19th at 4:30.  Mrs. Mertins will be sending home a more detailed schedule with all of the boys on the team.  Good luck boys!

Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break.  I am looking forward to getting back into routine, however, I will miss my leisurely morning coffee with a good book.

Gr. 3-6 Skiing 

The Gr. 3-6 students will once again be hitting the slopes of Rabbit Hill on Tuesday, January 30th.  Everyone had a wonderful time in December so I hope the conditions are favorable this time so everyone enjoys themselves again.

Staff Planning and Development Day ~

There is no school on Wednesday, January 31st as this is a staff planning and development day.  The staff will be working on one of the school's three year plan goals - to increase the Foundational Knowledge of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit.  We will be joining Thorsby Elementary School to participate in a Blanket Exercise.
