May

It is hard to believe there are only two months of school left. I always start to get a little anxious at this time of year when I start to think of all the things that still need to be done, all the curriculum still need to be covered and how little time we truly have.  Somehow or other, each year, they all seem to get finished.  Fingers crossed that it is the same this year!

Education Week ~ 

We started off thinking we would keep Education Week simple this year since we had such a busy Celebration of the Arts Week.  Well before we knew it one activity turned into many.  Here is the schedule of activities for Education Week.  

All Week - One School - One Book ~ April 30 - May 4
The book that will be our focus for One School - One Book is The Giving Tree: Traditional Metis Stories by Leah Dorion.  Each day we will focus on one subject and do activities that incorporate aspects of the story.

Monday - Health - Discuss giving and receiving compliments.
Tuesday - Math - Patterning to create a representation of the Metis Sash.
Wednesday - Science - Helping the environment.
Thursday - Social - Working Together
Friday - Language Arts - Comparing the two books called The Giving Tree.

Monday, April 30 ~ Author, Darcy Polny, will be at the school at 1:00 pm.
Wednesday, May 2 ~ Hats On For Mental Health & Cultural Day.  The Cultural Potluck will begin at 11:45 until 12:30.  Presentation of cultural projects will go from 1:00 - 2:15

Lunches will be provided by the PTA all week with the exception of Wednesday when we will be having our Cultural Potluck.


Swimming ~ 

Swimming continues for all classes.  Please note that the times have changed for all classes.  For May, all classes will swim from 11:00 - 12:00.

Gr. 3-6 swim on Tuesdays, May 1, 8, and 15 from 11:00 - 12:00.
K - Gr. 2 swim on Thursdays, May 3, 10, and 17 from 11:00 - 12:00.


Early Dismissal ~ 

Early dismissal will be on Wednesday, May 2nd.  Students will be dismissed at 2:30.


Assembly ~ 

Our May assembly will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 8:30 a.m.  If your child is being recognized at the assembly their teacher will notify you. 


Staff Planning & Development Day ~ 

There will be no school on Friday, May 18th as it is a Staff Planning and Development Day.  


Victoria Day ~ 

There is no school on Monday, May 21st as it is Victoria Day. 


Kindergarten Open House ~

This year, all children that will be attending kindergarten in the fall are invited to spend some time at school on Friday, May 25th.  They will have an opportunity to meet their teacher, see the classroom, and participate in some activities. It should be a great time for all of them.


Whole School Field Trip ~

The entire school will be going on a field trip on Tuesday, May 29th to the Botanical Gardens.  More information will be coming home in the near future.  You will be notified when permission forms are available on line.

Week of April 23rd - 27th

We did not have as busy a week as the previous week so I have no new pictures of events to share.

Swimming Lessons ~

Swimming lessons continue this week.  The Gr. 3-6 students swim on Tuesday, April 24 from 1:00 - 2:00 and the K-2 students swim on Thursday, April 26 from 1:00 - 2:00.  The bus leaves the school at noon and returns just before 3:00.  

Spring Pictures ~

A reminder that we will be having spring pictures taken on Thursday, April 24th.  Siblings are welcome to join us for pictures.  Please contact the office for more information.

Thank you to everyone that came out to our Appreciation Breakfast.  It was a great turnout and the students did a fabulous job performing.

The Talent Show ~

WOW!  Do we ever have a group of talented students.  Everyone that participated did a wonderful job.  Thanks to everyone that came out and cheered on our students!  It was a terrific afternoon!






















Swimming ~

The Gr. 3-6 students will be swimming again on Tuesday, April 17th @ 1:00.  The bus will leave the school around 12:00.

The K-2 students will be swimming on Thursday, April 19th @ 1:00.  The bus will leave the school around 12:00.

No School ~

There will be no school on Friday, April 20th as it is a Staff Planning and Development Day.

Library Prize ~ 


Congratulations to Eryn R in Gr.4 and Johanna A in Gr. 1.  The girls were the lucky winners of the library prize. 


Rainbow Lunch Winner ~ 


Congratulations to Brett B in Gr. 3 for winning the Rainbow Lunch  draw.  Brett won a pass to the LRC for himself and one adult.  


Boys' Floor Hockey Tournament ~


The Boys' Floor Hockey team played in the Black Gold Boys' Floor Hockey Tournament this past weekend.  The boys won one game and lost three.   Most of the games that they lost were very close games.  All of the boys played very hard and they left their hearts out on the floor.  Great job boys!  

This next week proves to be a very busy one.  There are many activities happening in conjunction with the Celebration of the Arts.  We hope to see as many of you as possible around the school this week with all of the exciting things going on.


Swimming Lessons ~  


Swimming lessons begin this week.  The Gr. 3-6 students go on Tuesday, April 10th from 1:00 - 2:00 and the K-2 students go on Thursday, April 12th from 1:00 - 2:00.  If you have not already done so, please send in your child's report card from their last swimming lessons.  Thank you!


Jersey Day ~


To show our support and respect to all of the families that were impacted by the tragic Humboldt Broncos accident, we will be asking students to wear their favorite sports jersey to school on Thursday, April 12th.  


                           

Appreciation Breakfast ~ 


Everyone is welcome to come out to the Appreciation Breakfast at 9:00 on Thursday, April 12th.  The students are excited to perform for you.  

Please be sure to call the office to let us know how many people will be attending.  

Art Walk ~ 


The students have been creating some fabulous pieces of art.   They have been copying the style of a famous master artist.  Come check out their art that will be displayed in the gym and hallway.  

Kindergarten Information Evening ~ 


Parents of children that will be attending kindergarten in the fall are invited to attend the Kindergarten Information Evening.  This will start at 6:30 and be held in the kindergarten classroom.  Please bring along your child's birth certificate and your legal land description. 

Children who are five on or before March 1, 2019 are eligible to attend kindergarten in the fall.

Talent Show ~


On Friday, April 13th at 1:30 our gym will be alive with the sounds and sights of our talented students.  Come out to show your support and cheer them on.

Early Dismissal ~ 

Early dismissal will be on Wednesday, April  4th.  Students will be dismissed at 2:30.

Assembly ~ 

Our April assembly will be held on Thursday, April 5th at 8:30 am.  If your child is being recognized at the assembly their teacher will notify you. 

Boys' Floor Hockey Tournament ~ 

The Black Gold Gr. 5/6 Boys' Floor Hockey Tournament will be on Friday, April 6th and Saturday, April 7th. Any boys that were interested in being on the team were given an initial information letter before Spring Break. The permission forms are available online.

Swimming ~ 

All classes will begin swimming lessons the week of April 9th.  Please be sure to have sent in your child's Red Cross swimming information so that they are placed in the appropriate level.  For your child's specific dates and times, please check the calendar.

We do realize that sometimes activities such as swimming can be cost prohibitive for families.  If this is the case for your family, please phone or come in to the school to talk to me.  We do not want any of our students to miss out on this wonderful opportunity.

Celebration of the Arts Week ~ 

Monday, April 9 to Friday, April 13, 2018, Black Gold Regional Schools will participate in Celebration of the Arts week by showcasing their individual music, theatre, drama, photography, film and visuals arts programs. 

At New Humble Centre each class will be focusing on the artistic style of one of the great master artists.  They will create a piece of art using the techniques of the artist that they are studying.  These pieces of art will be on display during our Appreciation Breakfast and the Talent Show.

We will also be showcasing our own in-house talent by having a talent show.  The talent show will be held on Friday, April 13th at 1:30 pm in the gym.

Appreciation Breakfast ~ 

This year we will be having an Appreciation Breakfast.  The breakfast will be held on Thursday, April 12th.  All of the classes have been busy practicing songs and dances to performance during the breakfast.  

Please call the office to let us know how many people will be attending.

Kindergarten Information Night ~

There will be a Kindergarten Information Night for the parents of any child attending kindergarten in the 2018-2019 school year.  Children must be 5 years of age on or before March 1, 2019 to be eligible for kindergarten in the fall.  

The Information Night will be held on Thursday, April 12th at 6:30 p.m. in the kindergarten class room.

Talent Show ~ 

Come out to the school on Friday, April 13th at 1:30 to watch our talented, brave students demonstrate their skills.  Everyone is welcome to attend!

Staff Planning and Development Day ~ 

There will be no school on Friday, April 20th.  This is a staff planning and development day.  You can read about what the staff is doing on our PD Plan which can be found on our website.

Spring Pictures ~

Spring pictures and kindergarten graduation pictures will be taken on Thursday, April 26th.  If you are interested in having sibling pictures they may be taken at this time.
