Weekly Update May 31 - June 3

Wow, it is hard to believe that we are heading into the final month of the school year.  I know we say that all the time but this year seems to have really gone by quickly.  Please check the calendar that will be coming home as there are many events happening this month.  Be sure to save the date for them.

Bake Sale for Fort McMurray ~

Congratulations to the students, staff and families at New Humble Centre for raising $363.00 to support the Ft. McMurray relief efforts. Thank you to all of the families that donated baking to support this fund raisers.  It was definitely a job well done!

Field Trip to Strathcona Wilderness Centre ~

All of the students had a wonderful time at the field trip to the Strathcona Wilderness Centre. There they had an opportunity to engage in activities that were either related to their science or social studies outcomes.  The students were kept busy the entire day, so I am sure that there were many tired children that night.  Thanks so much to the parents that were able to come along as supervisors.  Your help was greatly appreciated.

A few pictures of the Kindergartens and Gr. 1/2 students building houses for the animals that live in the forest.  Many of the students were so involved in this project that they did not want to stop.  In fact some of the students told me the next day that they went home and build another house.

The Grade 3/4 and 5/6 students participated in a Voyageur activity where they had to pretend that they were the Voyageurs.  They needed to collect tokens in order to buy items that would help them survive our harsh Canadian climate.  However, collecting the tokens was not an easy task.  Ask your child about the activity.

During our last assembly, the Student of the Month winners spun the prize wheel and won another Pajama Day for the whole school.  We will be having the pajama day on Tuesday, May 17th.  Everyone come dressed in your favorite pajamas.

Mental Health Day ~

The CAP team from District Office will be spending the afternoon of Wednesday, May 18th at the school leading the students through a variety of activities that promote mental health.  The afternoon will kick off with a whole school assembly and then students will participate in three of the five activities.  Be sure to ask your child specific questions about what they did that afternoon.

Staff Planning & Development Day ~

There will be no school for students on Friday, May 20th.  This is a day where the teachers will be working together to learn about an individualized spelling program called Words Their Way.

Checking in at the Office ~

Parents when you are coming to the school, we ask that you please check in at the office first.  Whether it is to drop something off for your child or pick them up, it is best to come to the office before proceeding to the classrooms.  At times, it can be very disruptive to the class especially if there are multiple people in throughout the day.
Thank you for your cooperation in the matter.
