December

Happy December!

I hope everyone is starting to get into the Christmas spirit.  For me, just taking in some of the Christmas markets that are happening around the area get me thinking about Christmas.  I hope that I get time to go out to the Leduc Country Christmas Lights.  They always do such a wonderful job with their light display.  It really is sad that this will be the last year that this event will be happening.

At New Humble, students are starting to practice for the Christmas Concert.  Lines are being rehearsed, songs are being sung and the recorders are being practiced in full force.  Soon decorations will be filling the hall and classrooms.

It truly is a wonderful time of year!

Week of Nov. 19th - 23rd

Thank you to the parents that were able to make it out to the school for the Social Media Presentation.  The session was very informative and there was some very good take away information.

Did you know that some social media sites that your child(ren) may have an account on will never let them delete their account?  Did you know that some sites will let users post anonymously?

Here are a few parent sites that have some excellent research about technology and children:

1.  Centre on Media and Child Health - https://cmch.tv/
2.  Common Sense  - https://www.commonsensemedia.org/
3.  Screenagers: Growing Up In The Digital Age -  https://www.screenagersmovie.com/latest-usage-research/

Their second game of the season takes place on Tuesday, November 20 @ East Elementary School in Leduc.  We wish the girls the best of luck.

Mustache Day ~

The WE Club has selected Thursday, November 22nd as Mustache Day.

Why Mustache Day?  This fun theme day is to coincide with Movember.  The goal of Movember is to increase early detection of men’s health issues and ultimately reduce the number of deaths from cancer and other treatable diseases.

Dental Hygienists will be at the school on Thursday, November 22 to speak with the Gr. 3-6 students about dental hygiene.

Week of October 29 - Nov. 2

It is so wonderful to actually be experiencing some Fall like weather these past two weeks.  The students are really enjoying the warm afternoons when they go out for recess.

Halloween ~
We will once again be doing our customary Halloween activities.  Students are encouraged to wear their costume for the entire day.  Remember that there are no weapons allowed.

In the morning we will be having classes as usual.

All parents are welcome to join us.  Don't forget to wear your Halloween costume!

Week of October 8 - 12

Image result for happy thanksgiving clipart

There is no school on Monday, October 8 as it is Thanksgiving Day.  We hope that everyone has a wonderful long weekend and a terrific Thanksgiving.

Thanks to the parents that attended our October assembly.  Please remember you are all welcome to attend our assemblies!  It does not have to be just when your child is being recognized.  We would love to see you there!

Student of the Month ~

As many of you know, we have changed the way we are doing student of the month.  This year, teachers will only be selecting one student per class for each month.  It is our hope that it will make the award more meaningful to the students.

Our well deserved recipients for September were Brianna L from the  Gr. 5/6 class, Grayson J from the Gr. 3/4 class, Cailey T from the Gr. 1/2 class, and Armony H from the Kinder class.  These students will be having Pizza With The Principal on Tuesday, October 23.

Caught Being Good ~

This is something new that we have added this year.  If a student is seen going out of their way to do a random act of kindness without being asked, he or she is recognized on the next day's announcements.  Their name is then entered into a draw which is held at our monthly assembly.  Students can have their names entered multiple times each month.  They just have to be "Caught Being Good"!

September's lucky winner was Eva M from Gr. 6. Eva received a coupon for the Scholastic Book Orders.

Socktober ~

Each month the WE Club will be doing some type of collection drive in order to help others.  Please keep in mind that these collection drives are voluntary.  You are welcome to help as little or as much as you are able.  The WE motto is WE makes doing good, doable and part of their belief is when we come together we can create an even better world. At our school we want to help others that are less fortunate than us.  We will do acts of service that serve people and communities both locally and globally.

For the month of October, the WE Club has chosen their focus to be Socktober. We are asking families to send in a new pair of socks that can be taken to help support people in our greater community.  We would also accept toques and mittens.  We do ask that items be new items.  Thank you for your support!

                                Image result for socktober clipart

Go Green ~

Another change that is taking place at New Humble is the way we do Rainbow Lunch and the LRC passes.  Not that we discourage rainbow lunches or lunches that have items from all four food groups, we are just changing the focus to cover all aspects of health.

This month the focus is on bringing naturally green foods such as cucumbers, green apples, green peppers, etc for snack or lunch.  Each day that a child brings something green they get to add a tally to their class chart.  At the end of the month, the class with the most tallies will do a draw for the LRC pass.

We will let you know at the beginning of each month what the monthly focus is.

Verification Forms ~

If you have not yet completed the Verification Form online, we are asking that you please do this.  Please note that your child's grade will not be correct on the form.  Please fill out the form anyway.

School Photos ~

School Photos will be taken on Tuesday, October 9th.

Fire Safety Presentation ~

The Calmar Fire Department will be at the school on Thursday, October 11 to do a Fire Safety Presentation to each class.  This year's theme is 'Look, Listen, Learn, be aware - fire can happen anywhere'.
