Report Cards ~
Your child will be bringing their report card home on Friday, March 17th.
Bringing home a report card can be exciting; it can also be a cause for anxiety for some students. Here are a few tips on how to respond to your child's report card constructively no matter what the situation.
1. Focus on the Positive - despite the grades that may be on the report card looks for the positives. By starting on a positive note you are showing your child that you truly care about the accomplishments, not only the areas that need to be improved upon.
2. Ask the Right Questions - Talk to your child asking questions to understand how a grade was earned; was the work too difficult?, Is the pace of the class appropriate?, Does your child complete all assigned homework?, Do they ask questions when they don't understand? Once you have determined the problem, you can begin to create a solution.
3. The Next Step - Create a plan to maximize future success. Work with your child to set realistic and attainable goals. Determine rewards for if the goals are met and consequences for if they are not. Print out the plan and have it out as a visible reminder for your child. It important to have your child involved in this plan. You can share the plan with your child's teacher.
Remember to celebrate the successes no matter how small!
