October News

Wow, we have already finished the first month of the school year.  It has been an absolutely fabulous month.  We have already had many exciting activities and it is wonderful to see such great school spirit from the students, staff and parents.  Besides just having fun, there has been a great deal of learning happening.  Every time I go into a class the students are hard at work.  I enjoy asking them about what they are learning and listening to them explain their learning to me.  With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I would have to say that I am thankful to be able to work with such enthusiastic students, dedicated staff, and supportive parents. Thank you!

Fire Safety

The theme of this year's Fire Prevention Week is "Don't Wait- Check the Date! Replace smoke alarms every 10 years."

Bus Lane Safety

Did you know that when the buses are parked in the bus lane at the front of the school you could be ticketed for driving past them?  For the safety of the students, please do not drive past the buses when they are parked in front of the school.  Thank you.

Parking Lot Woes

As most of you are aware, our parking lot is very small.  In order to maximize the number of vehicles that can fit into the parking lot, when parking in the center section, please pull up as far as you can to the front of the yellow lines. Two vehicles should be able to fit in each of the marked off sections.

Hot Lunch Helpers Needed

The Hot Lunch Committee is looking for an individual or individuals that may be interested in shadowing Mrs. Messer.  This person would help with ordering the lunches and purchasing groceries that are needed for the lunches that are prepared at school.  If you are interested or willing to learn about this role, please call the office and leave your name.

Farm Safety -

All classes will be having a presentation on Farm Safety on Wednesday, Oct. 5th.  This is especially important for our students at this time of year as they love to ride along on the combines and tractors and be part of what is happening with the harvest.

Thanksgiving -

There is no school on Monday, Oct. 10th as that is Thanksgiving.  I hope everyone has a fabulous long weekend and gets a chance to eat lots of turkey and pumpkin pie!

Fire Safety -

Some of the members from the Calmar Fire Department will be at the school on Tuesday, Oct. 11th to give a Fire Safety Presentation to the students.  The students may even get an opportunity to go on the fire truck.

Picture Day -

Lifetouch will be at the school to do Fall Pictures on Thursday, Oct. 13th.  They are trying out a new format this year where parents will have numerous background choices and crops on their proof sheet.  Parents will also be able to sign up for a MyFamily Rewards program.  More information about the new format will be coming.  Stay tuned!

Parent-Teacher Conferences -

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18th and Thursday, Oct. 20th.  They will run from 4:30 - 7:00. The on-line registration that has been used in the past will be available soon.  The school will let you know when registration is open.

Halloween Activities -

Once again we are encouraging families to carve pumpkins and then bring them to the school to be displayed. Checking out all the fabulous carvings in always a highlight.

In the afternoon, the students will be divided into cross grade groups where they will rotate through a variety of Halloween activities.  The afternoon festivities will end in the gym where we will hold our annual costume parade. This will begin at 2:45.  Everyone is welcome to attend and join in the parade.  Please remember that weapons are not allowed at school.  Thank you!

Terry Fox Run ~

Here are some of the highlights from our Terry Fox Run/Walk.

Daniel in Gr.1 was the lucky winner of the Terry Fox T-shirt.

Thanks to all the parents that came out and walked or ran with us!
