Week of March 25th - 29th

Well it does appear that the saying "March comes in like a Lion and goes out like a lamb" will hold true this year.  The last half of March has definitely been enjoyable.  I hope the weather holds out so everyone can spend some time outside over Spring Break.

Today we did our whole school Student of the Month reward.  The Gr. 3/4 class chose pancakes for the school as the reward.  During our March Match-up time, the students ate pancakes in their pajamas with their March buddy.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Spring Break.  Classes resume Monday, April 1st.

Week of March 18th - 22nd

Thank you to all of the parents that were able to make it out for the family skating party. Thank you also for being flexible with our constant juggling of times. Despite the fact that the ice was no longer in the best condition, everyone had a great time. Thanks also to the staff that made and served the hot chocolate. Everyone enjoyed the treat at the end of skating.

We owe a great big thank you to Nick Martinoff and Durrand Hebner for flooding and maintaining the skating rink. I am just sorry that we were not able to make better use of the rink this year.

I recently had a dad commented on how fortunate our students are. He would have loved to go to a school where there was a rink right on the school grounds. Our students are very fortunate to have that and sometimes take for granted those opportunities that are so easily accessible. I know I definitely had fun skating with the phys ed class on the rink this year! I particularly enjoyed watching the progress some of the students made in their skating each and every time they went out on the rink. Another example of how determination pays off!

Green Day ~

Monday, March 18th is Green Day. Even though it is a day after St. Patrick's Day, everyone is encouraged to dress in green.  Hopefully the little leprechaun did not come to school over the weekend, but if he did I am sure that the traps made by the Gr. 1/2 students would surely catch him.

Celebration of Learning ~

Students have the opportunity to share their learning with their parents/guardians on Tuesday, March 19th.  There have been wonderful things happening in each and every classroom so come to school on Tuesday between 4:30 - 7:00 to check it out.  Your child is excited to share all of their learning with you.

Pajama Day ~

What a better way to spend the last day of school before Spring Break than in your pajamas.  Students are encouraged to wear their pajamas to school on Thursday, March 21st.

February

We did it!  We managed to get the first report cards on PowerSchool out on time.  There were only a few behind the scenes hiccups.  Thank you to all of the teachers and Mrs. Austin for their hard work in making this possible.

Please remember to fill out and send it the Accountability Pillar Survey!

I would like to take a few moments to address the subject of field trips and alternate activities.  All field trips or alternate activities are planned with intent and purpose so as to meet curricular outcomes.  When we submit our request for a field trip to our District Office, we must include the tie to the curriculum.  Therefore, when we go skiing, swimming or skating for phys. ed, we are covering a part of the curriculum; General Outcome A, Application of Basic Skills in an Alternative Environment.  The participation in these activities is reflected in the students' phys. ed mark.  It is expected that all students will participate in these activities unless there are extenuating circumstances.  It is no different than expecting a student to complete a language arts or math activity.

I do recognize that some of these activities push some students out of their comfort zone but sometimes being pushed out of their comfort zone is healthy academically, physically, and emotionally.  We would never ask students to do something that would put them at harm.  The activities can all be modified so that every student can be successful at their level.

Free LRC Passes ~

Last week I sent out an email to parents explaining how you are able to borrow LRC passes from the school library for free.  That being said, there is a bit of a catch if they are returned late or lost.  Please read the following information sent to us regarding late or lost passes.

Loan periods are set for 7 days only and a family may renew the pass once unless there are other requests for it. Users are given a 1 day grace period for late returns but, are charged $1.00 a day if late. Once the pass is 3 days late it is automatically marked lost and the user is charged $20.00, which will need to be added to their RYCOR account.

Girls' Basketball ~

Congratulations to all the girls that played on the Girls' Basketball team this year.  The girls had their final tournament the last weekend of January.  All of the girls had a wonderful season and each of them have improved so much.

Thank you to all of the parents for the support you gave your daughter during the season.  Thank you to Pam Mollison for taking some of the following pictures.  Come out to the assembly on Wednesday to watch the video she and Anna made.
