WE Day ~

On Wednesday, Oct. 26th fifteen students from the Gr.5/6 class were fortunate enough to attend WE Day in Calgary. This was a very inspirational day for the students.  They were able to hear stories from people like Paula Abdul and astronaut Chris Hatfield as well as other people that chose to rise above the adversity they were facing and make a difference in the world.

If you would like to know more about what WE Day is, you can go to www.we.org. I am sure that if your child was one of the students that attended WE Day, you have already heard many of the stories. I know that I have enjoyed talking with the students about who they were most inspired by.

A special thank you to our PTA who provided the funds for the busing. Your generosity made this day possible for many of the fifteen students that attend.  Thank you so much!

Thank you to the people that responded to our call for baby food jars.  Thanks to your generosity Mrs. Sekora was able to start a science project in the Learning Commons.  She is growing rocks.  If you are in the school go down to the Learning Commons and check it out.

Week of Oct. 24th - 28th

Last week was a fairly quite week around the school.  Quite meaning that there were not a lot of extra events happening.  The students did receive their 'Whole School Student of the Month' prize which was to watch a movie. On Thursday afternoon the Kindergarten to Gr. 6 gathered in the gym to watch Monsters vs Aliens.  This coincided nicely with Popcorn Day so all the students had popcorn to eat while they watched the movie.  A special thank you to Aron M and Colby A from Gr. 5 who helped clean up the gym after the movie!!!

Baby Food Jars Needed ~

If anyone has any baby food jars that they do not need we would gladly take them.  We are looking for small jars about the size of baby food jars to grow crystals in.  They also come in handy for crafts.

Parent-Teacher Interviews ~

Thank you to all the parents that came out to Parent-Teacher Interviews last week.  We had an excellent turn out.  It was nice to see and chat with so many of you. Remember that if at any time you have questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher or the office.

WE Day ~

On Wednesday, October 26th fifteen of the grade 5/6 students are going to Calgary for WE Day.  A few of the speakers or presenters at the event that day are Chris Hatfield, Paula Abdul, Brett Kissel, and Classified.

WE Day is an annual "youth empowerment" event organized by WE Charity, (formerly know as Free the children).  The event started in Toronto in 2007 and is now held in cities across Canada, the United States and the UK.  WE Day motivates youth to take action on local and global issues.

Thank you to the PTA for providing the funds to cover the busing costs.
