Week of Sept. 18 - 22

We have had a wonderful start to our school year.  There have been five new families join our New Humble Centre Family.  Welcome!

Thank you to all of the families that were able to come out to the Welcome Back BBQ.  During the BBQ the Gr. 5/6 class collected donations for water to help give water to a under privileged village.  Thanks to the generous donation of the people at the BBQ the class collected $41 which is enough money for a well of water.

Thanks also to the PTA for providing the food for the BBQ and a special thank you to Mr. Besler and Mr. Martinoff for cooking the hot dogs and hamburgers.

Here are some pictures from the first day of school.

To see more of the first day pictures check out the TV carousel by the gym.

Student Absences

For the safety of our students, it is extremely important to notify the school if your child will be late or absent.  If the school is not notified, we are obligated to phone your home or office to confirm the absence.  Students who arrive late must report to the office before going to class.

Alternate After School Plans

If your child will be going home in a different manner than what is typical, such as getting picked up by yourself or someone else, going with another parent, or not taking the bus, please contact the school and let us know of these arrangements.  Often times students think there is a change of plans when really there are none.

If your child typically takes the bus and we do not know they are being picked up, it is our policy to send them on the bus.  We do not want to send a child home to an empty house so please let us know.

Thank you for your cooperation in this manner.

School Visitors

For the safety of our students, staff, and visitors, all school visitors must first report to the office before going to another part of the school.

Student Handbooks

Please take a moment to review the student handbook with your child.  The student handbook can be found on our website under parents and students.

June 26th - 30th

I can not believe how fast the 2016-2017 school year went. It seems like only yesterday that we were planning for the Christmas concert.  Now we are ready to put our summer holiday plans into action.

This last post for the school year show some of our final activities as well as some information for the fall.

We wish everyone a wonderful, fun-filled summer!

Canada 150 Celebrations ~

On Friday, June 23 the students and staff celebrated Canada's 150th birthday.  We assembled in the gym to watch a few videos about Canada, we hung 150 Canadian flags along the fence which were kindly donated by the Leakey Family, and then we broke into 4 groups and rotated through some Canadian themed activities.

The students all painted a rock to represent Canada, made maple syrup suckers, used a maple leaf to do crayon rubbings, and played Canada's National Sport - Lacrosse.

Relay Races and Tug of War ~

Despite the windy day on Tuesday, June 27th, the entire school went outside to participate in some relay races and tug of war.

Thanks to all of the parents that came out to watch and cheer the students on.

Thank you so much to the PTA for providing the staff with a fabulous appreciation luncheon.  It was absolutely delicious and it was enjoyed by all.

A special 'Thank You' to Giselle Messer, Tammy Glubish, Sheena Rector, and Joyce BAkker for preparing and serving the lunch and then supervising the students while the staff enjoyed the luncheon.

Gr. 5/6 Year End Field Trip ~

The Gr. 5/6 class went to the Snow Valley Aerial Park for their year end field trip.  All of the students had a wonderful time and most of them said that they would go back again.  Some of them even conquered their fear of heights.

Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring this trip.

Kinder Graduation/Family Day Celebration ~

Our Kindergarten class will be celebrating their year of learning on Thursday, June 22nd in the afternoon.  Specifics went home with each of the kindergarten children.

Canada 150 Activities ~

On Friday, June 23 the staff and students will be celebrating Canada’s 150 birthday.   Each teacher will organize an activity for the students to participate in. Students will be divided into four groups and will rotate through the various activities.  The activities will take place in the afternoon, starting at 12:45.

For one of the activities, the students will need to bring in a rock.  The rock can range from about 3 inches to 6 inches. If a child brings a rock that is on the smaller end, they may want to bring in a couple of them.  The children should not bring in rocks that are too large for them to carry.

Here is an example of what they will be doing with the rocks:

Track Meet Events Rescheduled ~

Due to the rain on our Track Meet Day we unfortunately could not finish the relay events that were scheduled for the afternoon.  Weather permitting, we are planning on completing the relay events and the tug of war on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 27th at 1:00 prior to the Celebration of Learning.

We hope you are able to make it out for this!

After School Pick Up and Busing Changes ~

Thank you to all of the parents that call or email the school to let us know that there will be a change to how their child is going home.  It is important that parents let us know if there is going to be a change in the way your child is going home.  Even if you have made prior arrangements with another parent, we still need to be informed.

Many times the students are asking if we received a call because they are not sure if they are getting picked up or taking the bus. If we have not been informed of any changes the rule of thumb at the school is that if the child's ride is not at the school when the buses are leaving then they are put on the bus. We would hate to send a child home to a empty house.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
