Week of June 18th - 22nd

It is hard to believe that we are into our last full week of school.  Didn't we just have the Christmas Concert?

It looks like we are going to be experiencing a bit of a heat wave this week.  Please make sure that your child brings a water bottle to school so that they can drink lots of water to stay hydrated.  They should also bring a hat to wear outside at recess.

Staff Appreciation Lunch ~

The staff would like to thank the Parent Group for the fabulous lunch that was prepared for them on Thursday, June 14th.  Also, thank you to Pam Hebner and
Cheryl te Reitstap for supervising the students while the staff enjoyed their lunch!

Provincial Achievement Tests ~

Our grade 6 students will be writing their PATs this week.  On Monday they will write the language arts Part B test which is Reading Comprehension and then on Tuesday they will be completing the math test.  We wish them the best of luck on their tests!

School Track Day ~

Our students are gearing up for the yearly track meet which will be held on Thursday, June 21. Lunch orders were due last  Friday, June 15th.  Guest will be able to purchase lunch that day.

We will be following the same format for the track meet as last year.  In the morning the students will be divided into groups by their age where they will compete against other students of the same gender and age.  In the afternoon students will be divided into family groups to compete in a variety of activities with their family group.

Parking is always an issue at the school as space is limited. This year we are asking that everyone park on the south side of the school.  We will only have one event happening on the south side of the school this year.  When parking, please be careful of the students that are moving to and from that event.  Thank you.

We will not be having  a rain out date. The hamburger/hot dog lunch will be served on Thursday, June 21th regardless.

Parking ~

We are asking that if you are parking in the lanes in the middle of the parking lot, please remember that those are meant to be two parking spots.  Please pull up as far as possible if you are in the front of the lanes.  Thank you!

The Calmar Bench Show ~

Dear Parents & Students:

The Calmar Fair is being held on August 18, 2018 and we are extending an invitation to all individuals and families to come out and participate in our Bench Show, the “Old Fashioned Country Fair”. This is a friendly competition for all ages and also a great way to see what our kids have done in school or elsewhere, so we can showcase their talents and abilities. The Calmar Fair Bench Show is taking place in the Calmar Curling Arena during the Calmar Fair, with entries being submitted on Thursday, August 16. Judging will take place on Friday, August 17 and the Show will be open to the public on Saturday, August 18 from 8 AM - 3:30 PM.

This is an opportunity for anyone to compete with any project or interest that they may have. It does not matter if your interest is in art, writing, baking, photography, woodworking or horticulture, we have a category and competition for you! The Bench Show is the perfect place for you to display and compete with any of your school projects or work that you have done during the school year.

This year we are excited to again include: Lego Construction

There will be many different categories in which to compete. If you like to build with Lego, here is your opportunity to make your masterpiece, showcase it to the community and compete against other lego-minded kids. Let’s make this the “BIGGEST LEGO COMPETITION IN ALBERTA!”

There will also be a Tractor Pull Competition!
This competition is divided into four age groups:
4-5 year olds
6-7 year olds
8-10 years olds
11-12 year olds

Register at the Bench Show on Saturday, August 18. The competition will be running throughout the day.
Please check out our extensive list of categories by finding us online at www.calmarfair.com or picking up a Contest Guide at the Calmar town office.

Bring your entries to the Calmar Curling Rink on Thursday, August 16. The competition will be open for display to the public on Saturday, August 18, 2018.

We will have a concession to provide hot and cold drinks along with pie and ice cream. Come and sit for a while and visit with your friends and neighbors. Bring your whole family out to see the Bench Show on Saturday, August 18, 2018 for a fun filled day!
