The whole school went on a field trip to the Botanic Gardens on Tuesday, May 29.  Each of the groups spent the morning collecting organisms that live in the pond as well as trying their luck at catching some frogs. The afternoon was spent playing games where they had to take on the role of an animal or bird.  The students had so much fun they didn't even realize they were learning so much about science.

Thank you to Mrs. Korteweg and Mrs. Kabanuk for coming along to help supervise.

To see more of the pictures, come to the school and watch the monitor outside of the gym.

Provincial Achievement Tests ~

The Gr. 6 students have already written the Part A of the Language Arts Provincial Achievement Test.  The remaining tests are scheduled for:

Monday, June 18 - LA Part B (Reading Comprehension)
Tuesday, June 19 - Math Part A (Timed Facts) and Part B (Problems)

It is important that the students get a good night's sleep the night before each test and have a nutritious breakfast each morning of the test.  There is plenty of research to support the benefits of good nutrition on school performance.

School Track Meet ~

Our students are gearing up for the yearly track meet which will be held on Thursday, June 21st . Lunch orders are due by Friday, June 15th.

We will be following the same format for the track meet as last year.  In the morning the students will be divided into groups by their age where they will compete against other students of the same gender and age.  In the afternoon students will be divided into family groups to compete in a variety of activities with their family group.

Parking is always an issue at the school as space is limited. This year we are asking that everyone park on the south side of the school.  We will only have one event happening on the south side of the school this year.  When parking, please be careful of the students that are moving to and from that event.  Thank you.

Due to the late timing of this year's track day we will not be able to schedule a rain out date. The hamburger/hot dog lunch will be served on Thursday, June 21st regardless.

Week of May 7th - 11th

Last week sure was full of a variety of awesome activities.  Those activities would not have been possible if not for the hard work of the teachers.  A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Hansen and Mrs. Mertins for planning the One School, One Book activities and to Mrs. Martinoff for planning the Cultural Day.  A job well done, ladies!

Here are some pictures of the activities.

Grade 6 Language Arts Writing PAT ~

The grade 6 students will be writing the first of their PAT's on Friday, May 11th.  If your child is in Gr. 6 please make sure they get plenty of sleep the night before and that  they have a nutritious breakfast that morning.

Parking Lot Woes (cont.) ~

In the last little while we have had a couple close calls with students almost getting hit by vehicles while either being  dropped off in the morning or picked up at the end of the day.  As we are all aware, the parking lot becomes very congested and it makes it difficult to see the students as they make their way to or from their vehicle. Therefore we are asking everyone that is dropping off or picking up students to please escort the child(ren) to the school sidewalk.  Thank you for helping us keep all students safe!
