Weekly Update - Nov. 23 - 27

Disney Day

It was wonderful to see so many students and staff dress up for Disney Day.  There were some wonderful costumes and obviously some busy moms as many of the girls had their hair all done up.  Sorry dads but I am assuming it was the moms that did the girls' hair.  If I am wrong please let me know!

A Short But Busy Week!

Despite the short week that is coming up, it looks like it will be a busy one.

Christmas Concert Auditions ~

Christmas Concert Auditions will be starting on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.  Students in Gr. 3 - 6 were offered an opportunity to have a speaking role in the performance.  If your child was interested he or she would have brought home some lines to practice.  Good luck to everyone that is trying out.

Basketball ~

This coming Tuesday the girls' and boys' basketball teams are off to play against Calmar Elementary.  The games are scheduled to start as soon as our teams arrive at their school. The girls are slated to go first.

Thanks to all of the parents that came out to cheer for our teams when they played against East Elementary last Tuesday.  The girls got off to a slow start but by the second half they were holding their own.  At one point there was only a one basket difference. Try as they might, they just could not sink a few more basket. Despite the lose, the girls had a great first game!

The boys did not have to work as hard to finish with a win.  Even though it was an easier game all the boys hustled out on the court and put in wonderful effort.  They did not quit 'giving their all' until the final buzzer sounded.  Excellent job, Boys!

Re-take Picture Day ~

Thursday, November 26th will be re-takes for pictures.  This is for any child that may have been absent on the first picture day or is needing re-takes.

Report Cards ~

Report Cards are being sent out on Thursday, November 26th.  Hopefully everything either remained status quo or improved since your conversation with your child's teacher at Parent-Teacher Conferences.   If you do have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher!

Professional Development Day ~

On Friday, November 27 there is no school for the students as it is a Professional Development Day for the teachers.  This is an ATA sponsored PD day so teachers will be working on individual or group activities that are linked to their Professional Growth Plans.

Weekly Update

I hope that everyone enjoyed the November break.  It was nice to be able to have such nice weather for it.

It looks like we will be having a busy week here at New Humble.

Our basketball teams will be playing their first game tomorrow right after school at East Elementary. Girls will be playing first.

Tomorrow the Gr. 5/6 class will have a presentation on Digital Citizenship with a large focus on plagiarism.  This should serve the students well in the remainder of their school career.

It looks like the school will be full of Disney characters on Wednesday as the school has its "Dress as your favorite Disney Character" theme day.  Pictures will follow.

Book orders are due on Thursday.  Hopefully you read the note on the Home page from Mrs. Sekora about the November book orders.  This will be the last order to be received before Christmas.  The December order will not come back to the school until January.  Thursday is also popcorn day.

Halloween Updates

A Minion Reasons to Love New Humble School

The staff and many of the students dressed as Minions for Halloween.  It was wonderful to have so many students dress up and the variety of costumes was amazing.  Thanks to the parents for sending snacks to the classes, coming out to the parade, and dressing up.

Pumpkins on Parade

Thanks to all the families who sent in pumpkins to share with the rest of the school.  The old computer lab was glowing.  As you can see from the pictures, there was a great deal of effort put into the designs.  A job well done!

Halloween Events

Once again we are encouraging families to bring a jack-o-lantern for our Jack-o-Lantern display.  The jack-o-lanterns will be displayed in the Learning Commons this year.  It is always great to see the wide variety of designs.

The students are already getting excited about the Halloween Events.  There is a great deal of talk about what their costumes will look like.  Students are welcome to wear their costumes for the entire day.  Remember that there is a NO WEAPON policy.  That includes plastic and foam looking weapons as well.  Please leave all weapons at home.  In the afternoon students will be divided into cross grade groups and they will circle through a variety of stations. We will be having the Halloween Costume Parade at 2:45.  Parents and siblings are welcome to join us in the gym for the parade.  Don't forget your costume!

Parent Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all of the parents that came out to parent teacher conferences.  We had an 80% turn out.  Research shows that family engagement matters for student success.   This engagement takes the committed actions of both families and the schools working together. Please remember that if at any time you have any questions or concerns about your the teachers and/or myself would be more than happy to discuss those with you.

A Busy Past Two Weeks

Board Visit

On October 9th our Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Yanitski, and the Board of Trustees came to New Humble Centre for a visit.  The group was toured around the school by three of our students.  They took time to visit each class.  While in the classes, they asked the students questions about Black Gold School District and handed out prizes to the students. The board is always pleased to see and hear about all of the exciting things that are happening at New Humble.
